The objective of the JUMP Challenge is to design a residential building wall retrofit given design constraints and mandatory criteria. The wall retrofit is to be assembled in Boulder, Colorado while following the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code. The existing building, in which the existing walls will be retrofitted, is a single family home built in 1975 comprising of 2,400 square feet. Tasked with designing the retrofitted wall, students will explore solutions that prevent moisture build-up, improve air tightness and indoor air quality and ultimately save on energy costs. The building wall retrofit design analysis that follows will include a breakdown of the building's current code requirements, addressment of moisture control and air leakage, and cost of total retrofit.
